Create delicious homemade Reese’s Eggs that combine creamy peanut butter and powdered sugar centers coated in smooth milk chocolate. This no-bake treat is perfect for Easter or anytime you crave a classic peanut butter chocolate candy.

Ingredients

Scale

Peanut Butter Filling

  • 3 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 1/2 Cups Creamy Peanut Butter
  • 1/4 Cup Butter or Margarine (melted)
  • 2 Tablespoons Milk

Chocolate Coating

  • 12 Bags Milk Chocolate Chips
  • 2 Tablespoons Shortening

Instructions

  1. Prepare Peanut Butter Dough: Beat together the powdered sugar, creamy peanut butter, and melted butter. The mixture will initially be crumbly. Add two tablespoons of milk, then continue beating until the dough softens but may still be slightly crumbly.
  2. Shape the Eggs: Dust a surface with flour and roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use egg-shaped cookie cutters or a knife to cut the dough into egg shapes.
  3. Freeze the Eggs: Arrange the shaped eggs on a cookie sheet and place them in the freezer for one hour to firm up.
  4. Melt the Chocolate: Combine the milk chocolate chips and one tablespoon of shortening in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly each time until smooth and fully melted. Avoid overheating.
  5. Dip the Eggs in Chocolate: Using a spoon, coat each peanut butter egg in the melted chocolate, ensuring complete coverage. Place the chocolate-coated eggs on wax paper to set.
  6. Additional Chocolate if Needed: If more chocolate coating is required, melt the second bag of chocolate chips with one tablespoon shortening using the same microwave method and repeat dipping as needed.
  7. Set and Serve: Allow the coated eggs to fully set before serving. Enjoy your homemade Reese’s Eggs!

Notes

  • Use creamy peanut butter for the smoothest texture.
  • If dough is too crumbly, add a little extra milk, one teaspoon at a time.
  • Freezing helps the eggs hold their shape during dipping.
  • Shortening in chocolate thins it for easier coating and a shinier finish.
  • Store finished Reese’s Eggs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
