Mini Snowman Truffles Recipe

4.5 from 92 reviews

Mini Snowman Truffles are adorable, festive treats made by combining vanilla Oreo crumbs and dairy-free cream cheese to create a pliable dough, which is then shaped into snowmen and dipped in dairy-free white chocolate. Decorated with candy scarves, mini chocolate chips, and orange sprinkles, these truffles are perfect for holiday celebrations and fun to make with kids.

Ingredients

Scale

Snowman Base

  • 1 package (about 36 cookies) Vanilla Oreos
  • 170g (6 oz) Dairy-Free Cream Cheese, softened

Coating and Decorations

  • Dairy-Free White Chocolate (for coating; melting wafers recommended)
  • Candy Scarves (fruit strips, sour belts, or ribbon candy)
  • Mini Chocolate Chips or Edible Ink Pens (for eyes and buttons)
  • Orange Sprinkles or Orange Icing (for the nose)

Instructions

  1. Create the “Snow” Dough: Place the entire package of Vanilla Oreos, including the filling, into a food processor and pulse until finely crumbed. If you don’t have a food processor, crush the cookies in a zip-top bag using a rolling pin until you have a fine, sand-like texture.
  2. Bring the Dough to Life: Transfer the cookie crumbs into a medium mixing bowl. Add the softened dairy-free cream cheese and mix thoroughly using a spatula or your hands until the mixture forms a smooth, pliable dough that holds together like Play-Doh.
  3. Roll, Roll, Roll Your Snowmen: Pinch off dough portions and roll them into balls to create each snowman: one larger ball (about 1 tablespoon) for the body and one smaller ball (about 2 teaspoons) for the head. If the dough is sticky, chill for 15 minutes; if dry, add a splash of non-dairy milk.
  4. The All-Important Chill Session: Arrange all body and head balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up for easier dipping.
  5. Melt the “Snow” Coating: While chilling, melt the dairy-free white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between bursts until smooth. Add a teaspoon of coconut oil if needed to thin the chocolate.
  6. The Great Dip & Stack: Dip the larger body ball completely in melted white chocolate, let excess drip off, and place on parchment. Immediately dip the smaller head ball and place it atop the body while the chocolate is still wet to act as glue. Use a toothpick for support if needed.
  7. Accessorize Your Snow Pals: Before chocolate sets, wrap a candy scarf around the snowman’s neck, press mini chocolate chips on the face and body for eyes and buttons, and add an orange sprinkle or small dot of orange icing for the carrot nose.
  8. Let Them Set: Allow the decorated snowmen to set at room temperature or in the fridge until the coating is completely firm, about 30 to 60 minutes.
  9. The Optional Flat-Base Trick: To stabilize wobbly snowmen, briefly press the bottom onto a warm pan to create a flat base but act quickly to prevent melting too much.

Notes

  • You can substitute regular cream cheese for dairy-free if no dietary restrictions apply.
  • If vanilla Oreos aren’t available, classic chocolate Oreos work well, resulting in chocolate snowmen.
  • Use edible ink pens for precise facial details if desired, especially good for children.
  • Adding a teaspoon of coconut oil to the white chocolate helps thin it and makes dipping easier.
  • Keep your hands clean and work quickly during decoration to prevent the coating from hardening prematurely.
  • Chilling the dough is crucial to prevent the snowmen from falling apart when dipped.
