Oreo Balls Recipe

Introduction

Oreo Balls are a delicious no-bake treat that combines the classic flavor of Oreos with creamy cream cheese and a smooth chocolate coating. These bite-sized delights are perfect for parties, holidays, or anytime you want a sweet and easy dessert.

A speckled white plate is filled with a mix of round chocolate truffles covered in either smooth dark chocolate or white chocolate coatings. The dark chocolate truffles are topped with a drizzle of darker chocolate and sprinkled with fine dark crumbs, while the white chocolate truffles are decorated with a drizzle of dark chocolate and scattered with dark cookie crumbs. Around the plate, several whole dark chocolate sandwich cookies with cream filling are placed on a white marbled textured surface, adding contrast to the scene. photo taken with an iphone --ar 4:5 --v 7

Ingredients

  • 36 regular Oreo cookies
  • 1 (8-ounce) package brick-style cream cheese, softened (226 grams)
  • 16 ounces chocolate (semi-sweet, milk, or white chocolate all work great) (452 grams)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Step 2: Add the Oreos to a blender or food processor and process until you have fine crumbs. Scoop the Oreo cookie crumbs into a large mixing bowl. Reserve 1 to 2 tablespoons of the crumbs to sprinkle on top of the Oreo balls if desired. Add the softened cream cheese to the Oreo cookie crumbs.
  3. Step 3: Using a handheld mixer, mix the cookie crumbs and cream cheese together until fully combined, stopping to scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  4. Step 4: Measure out one-tablespoon sized balls of the mixture, roll into balls, and place on the prepared baking sheet. Once finished, place the baking sheet with all of the Oreo balls in the freezer for at least 20 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Once the Oreo balls are firm, chop the chocolate and place it in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the chocolate in 20 to 30 second increments, stirring well after each increment, until fully melted and smooth.
  6. Step 6: Dip the Oreo balls into the melted chocolate to fully coat them, then carefully place them back on the baking sheet. Sprinkle the reserved crumbs on top of the Oreo balls as you dip them.
  7. Step 7: Once all the Oreo balls are coated in chocolate, place them back in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes to set.

Tips & Variations

  • For a festive touch, drizzle contrasting chocolate (white on dark or dark on white) over the coated balls before refrigerating.
  • Use flavored Oreos like mint or golden for a different flavor twist.
  • If you don’t have a food processor, place Oreos in a sealed bag and crush with a rolling pin until fine crumbs form.

Storage

Store the Oreo balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. They can also be frozen for up to three months. To enjoy, let them thaw in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving.

How to Serve

The image shows round truffles and Oreo cookies placed together on a white marbled surface. The truffles come in two styles: some are coated with smooth white chocolate and topped with dark chocolate drizzle and crushed Oreo crumbs, while others are coated with dark chocolate and sprinkled with crushed Oreo crumbs. The Oreo cookies are classic with a textured dark chocolate outer layer and white cream center, scattered among the truffles. The contrast between the white and dark chocolate coatings and the rough texture of the crushed crumbs creates a rich, layered look. photo taken with an iphone --ar 4:5 --v 7

Scale

Cookie Mixture

  • 36 regular Oreo cookies
  • 1 (8-ounce) package brick-style cream cheese, softened (226 grams)

Chocolate Coating

  • 16 ounces chocolate (semi-sweet, milk, or white chocolate), chopped (452 grams)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside to keep the Oreo balls from sticking.
  2. Crush Oreos: Add the Oreos to a blender or food processor and process until you have fine crumbs. Transfer the crumbs to a large mixing bowl, reserving 1 to 2 tablespoons for topping later if desired.
  3. Mix with Cream Cheese: Add the softened cream cheese to the Oreo crumbs. Using a handheld mixer, blend the mixture until fully combined and smooth, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed to ensure even mixing.
  4. Form Balls: Measure out one-tablespoon sized portions of the mixture. Roll each portion into a ball by hand and place them on the lined baking sheet. Once all are formed, freeze the balls for at least 20 minutes to help them firm up before dipping.
  5. Melt Chocolate: Chop the chocolate into small pieces and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20 to 30 second increments, stirring well between intervals until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
  6. Dip Oreo Balls: Remove the Oreo balls from the freezer. Using a fork or dipping tool, coat each ball fully in the melted chocolate and place back on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle the reserved Oreo crumbs on top if desired while the coating is still wet.
  7. Chill and Set: Place the coated Oreo balls into the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes so the chocolate can harden completely before serving.

Notes

  • Use brick-style cream cheese and make sure it is softened for an easy mix.
  • You can use semi-sweet, milk, or white chocolate for coating as per your preference.
  • For an extra decorative touch, sprinkle some crushed Oreos on top before the chocolate sets.
  • Store the Oreo balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Freezing the balls before dipping helps them hold their shape better when coated with chocolate.
