For the Filling
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 tsp garlic paste
- 2 tsp ginger paste
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/4 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp curry powder
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp chili powder, or to taste
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
- 2 green chili peppers, finely chopped
For Assembly
- Samosa or spring roll wraps
- 1 tbsp flour
- 3 tbsp water
- Neutral oil for frying
- Sauté Onions and Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add diced onions and cook until they are soft and golden in color. Stir in garlic paste and ginger paste, cooking for 1-2 minutes while stirring continuously to release their fragrances.
- Cook Ground Beef: Add ground beef to the pan. Break it into smaller pieces using your utensil, and begin cooking until it is almost fully cooked through.
- Add Spices and Finish Filling: Incorporate the ground cumin, garam masala, coriander powder, curry powder, turmeric powder, salt, and chili powder into the meat mixture. Continue cooking until the beef is thoroughly cooked. Turn off the heat and mix in fresh cilantro and finely chopped green chili peppers. Set the filling aside to cool.
- Prepare Sealing Paste: While the filling cools, prepare a thick wheat flour paste by mixing 1 tablespoon flour with 3 tablespoons water. This paste will be used to seal the samosa edges.
- Assemble Samosas: Take a samosa or spring roll wrap and fold the left side over, then fold again using the edge of the wrap as a guide. Gently stuff the cooled beef filling into the pocket. Use the flour paste to seal the edges securely by pressing gently. Repeat this process until all filling is used.
- Fry Samosas: Heat neutral oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry samosas for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Serve: Serve hot with your favorite chutney or dipping sauce and enjoy your spicy beef samosas.
Notes
- Adjust chili powder and green chilies to control the heat level based on personal preference.
- Ensure the beef filling is cooled before assembling samosas to prevent the wrappers from becoming soggy.
- If samosa wraps are unavailable, spring roll wrappers work as a suitable alternative.
- Use a neutral oil with a high smoke point for frying, such as vegetable or canola oil.
- Can be made ahead and frozen before frying; fry directly from frozen, adding a minute or two to cooking time.
